Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I contact?
Please send your full CV and covering letter directly to susan.hill[at]targettraining.eu.
Susan handles all initial applications. Any mails or phone calls will automatically be directed to her.

Do I need a training qualification and / or experience to apply for a position at Target?
Absolutely. To apply you must at least have CELTA or equivalent and more than 5 years of relevant experience training business English to adults in a corporate environment. The majority of successful applicants have either practical business experience, a Diploma or Masters qualification and / or 8 years+ experience in training English in a corporate environment.

A client-oriented attitude to training, MS Office skills, a track-record of personal development, and a sense of initiative are essential.

I’m currently based in Asia.  Does Target recruit trainers who are currently based outside Germany / Europe?
Yes. We continually seek to hire the right person for the right position. This means that we always consider suitable applicants, regardless of where they are in the world, and have interviewed and hired trainers based in Japan, South Africa and the US.

Target only hires following a series of telephone and face-to-face interviews. This means that if you are currently based outside Europe, the telephone interview process will often be a little more extensive as we need to be reasonably confident of your suitability before investing in long-distance flights to meet you.

I’m not an EU citizen.  Will I have a problem getting a work permit?
As stated above, we seek to hire the right person for the right position. To ensure this, once we demonstrate that the specific skills and experience we require are not available locally, Target will guide and support non-EU applicants in getting the appropriate permits. As might be expected, this can take a little longer and start dates may need to be postponed until you are legally employable.

Do I need to speak German to apply?
It’s not required professionally but it will certainly help you outside of work hours.

Seminar and InCorporate Trainers®™ are expected to operate solely in English during work hours, although a little German will always help when interacting with non-participants. Because it is not an essential skill, Target does not offer German training to staff.

Outside of work, some German will help you to integrate into German society and make your daily life both easier and richer. Indeed, work permits for trainers coming from non-EU countries often insist on enrollment in a subsidized German language and culture course.

Who will I be training?
Target works exclusively with corporate clients. This means you’ll be working with adult professionals who typically have specific needs and high expectations. Beyond this, clients come from all functions (e.g. engineers, management, quality, purchasing, business administration) and industries (e.g. power generation, IT solutions, logistics, consulting, manufacturing).

I’m an experienced business English trainer, and I’d be interested in working for Target on a part-time, freelance basis? Who do I contact?
Once again, please send your full CV and covering letter directly to susan.hill[at]targettraining.eu.

Target is always interested in hearing from experienced seminar trainers already based in Germany. Unfortunately due to the number of applications we receive, we rarely pursue applications from seminar trainers based outside Germany. Target is also interested in hearing from experienced material developers with a proven track record in writing and publishing training materials and courses. Developers do not need to be in Germany, although it helps.

What does an InCorporateTrainer's®™ typical day look like?
One of the most rewarding aspects of being an InCorporateTrainer®™ is that every program is different. Each client has its own unique program which reflects the short- and long-term needs of their participants and their business goals. As these needs change on a regular basis, there is no "typical" day. This is one of the key attractions of the job for many of our trainers.

However all InCorporateTrainers®™ do share the blend of training groups, one-to-one training, and proactive and reactive on-the-job support

The only fixed things in most InCorporate Trainers'®™ calendars are the weekly group and one-to-one training sessions. Apart from that, the nature of the job is that trainers are available to give people support on the job as and when they need it.

Do I have to work evenings or weekends?
InCorporate Trainers must be flexible and prepared for full days – but the work takes place within standard office hours. Occasionally there are exceptions, for example you may be asked to participate in client social events, which may run into the evening. Target also runs off-site training days, and this can mean spending the night away from home.

As many seminars take place in either hotels or on the client’s premises across Germany, seminar trainers are expected to travel and may be expected to work in the evenings too (typically social/fluency activities).
