Innovation

Innovation means striving to do things better. We have 3 engines of innovation:

- Target is run by and staffed with learning and development enthusiasts.
- Target continually collects and adapts ideas from outside and within the training industry.
- Target seeks to challenge our clients to expect more from their training partners.

Typical examples of our innovative drive are our push to promote transfer to the workplace and our ongoing commitment to designing client-centered training.

Promoting transfer to the workplace through customized training solutions

The closer the training content is to the learner’s day-to-day business needs, the easier it is for the learner to transfer the knowledge and skills into the workplace (Kemerer 1991). It is for this reason that Target provides customized training solution, eschewing off-the-shelf or pre-developed solutions in order to ensure the relevance of the training content. To this end,

- Target training solutions are client specific in terms of industry, skill and level.
- Target training plans present the goal, methods and benefits from our participants’ perspective.
- Target training goals are set with the end in mind.

To be able to present our Project Execution department to our Regional Entities at the upcoming International Project Management Workshop, convincing them of the need to adopt remote engineering as a standard tool.
Designing client-centered training

Lost time away from work is the greatest single cost driver in any training investment. To this we can add the problem of work pressure keeping participants away from scheduled training.

An understanding of this conflict has led us to the conclusion that traditional approaches to language learning (i.e. weekly in-house classes) have clear limitations. To be effective training has to be organized around the needs of  the workplace and the participants – only a training solution designed with knowledge of the client’s people, processes and projects is in a position to do this.

We believe that, in order to be effective, training solutions must:

- be flexible in terms of delivery (i.e. offering groups, workshops, one-to-one, independent learning etc.)
- take into account the client’s availability and schedules.
- develop along with the clients changing needs (in terms of targets, content, intensity and structure).
