To ‘be used to’ Vs ‘used to’

Do you know the difference between “I used to work in sales” and “I am used to working in sales”? These structures can be confusing and change the meaning of what you are trying to say. Here’s a simple rule to help!

  • To ‘be used to + ing verb’  refers to something familiar or a routine e.g. I’m used to travelling to work every day.
  • ‘Used to + infinitive’ refers to actions you did regularly in the past but you no longer do them now e.g. I used to live in Budapest.

Listen to a colleague who moved to Germany for work, and see if you can hear these structures in the audio.
