Belbin team types will help you to reduce the need for external motivation by selecting people who will perform tasks naturally. The Belbin Team Inventory is a personality test used by organizations since 1981 to boost team performance. Dr. Meredith Belbin studied team-work for many years, and observed that the most successful teams are those with a mix of different people with a range of different behaviours. These different behaviours are known as “team roles”, and can be clustered into nine distinct tendencies.
